When you’re searching for the right water dispenser or filtration for your home, it’s important to know the relative drawbacks and benefits of the products that are currently available on the market.  Out of all the types of water filter that are available, the reverse osmosis water filter is the most popular and generally the most affordable.  So how does it work and why is it so highly sought after?  Let’s take a deeper look into how it functions and why it’s useful:

First of all, a reverse osmosis filter works by running the untreated water through a specially designed membrane that will remove any contaminants and excessive mineral content.  This is an immensely practical feature that can dramatically improve the quality of your drinking and cooking water.  Since the membranes are so inexpensive to produce, the savings are passed to the customer in the form of many affordable options.

You may be asking yourself where these filters can be found, and you’ll be glad to know there are a large variety of choices.  For one thing, you can get reverse osmosis functionality in a whole house water filter, but these are somewhat hard to obtain and install.  A better option is to purchase a water dispenser with with one of these filters built in to it.  Of course, I’m referring to the type of bottle-less water dispenser that hooks up directly to your plumbing.  A bottled water dispenser, such as the Sunbeam water dispenser, will not necessarily need this type of filter because it relies on regularly delivered water that has already been run through a comprehensive filtration process in a large, off-site facility.

Here’s the bottom line:  The quality of the membrane itself will likely be regulated by federal and state law, but there’s still some wiggle room for varying filtration.  While your filter may be rated to pass the basic regulations that are in place, you still get what you pay for.  Be sure to read reviews and do the proper research before making the final decision.
