How To Use A Halogen Oven

Halogen ovens are a great new way to cook food.  They are small, compact, energy efficient and easy to use although they do take some getting used to.  High heat is produced using halogen bulbs and a fan circulates hot air to cook food.  It does take a bit of getting use to, but once you get the hang of it, a halogen oven is very easy and convenient to use.

The first thing to understand is although the cooking is done using new technology, you don’t have to alter your recipes or things you can cook using a halogen oven.  All you need to do differently is adjust cooking times and temperature.  Cooking with halogen ovens takes less time and doesn’t require as high a temperature as a conventional oven.  A majority of halogen ovens have an instruction booklet included that will give you cooking tips and instructions on how to use your new appliance.

As a general guideline, cooking times will be about half the amount of time that it takes when using a regular oven.  So if you recipe calls for an hour in the oven, check it at about a half an hour to see if it’s done.  If you don’t have any temperature guidelines handy, try reducing the oven temperature by approximately 10%.  It may take some trial and error to get the cooking temperature and timing down right, but once you do using a halogen oven is very easy and convenient to use.

Halogen ovens are also very easy to clean and care for.  Most of them are self cleaning.  The glass bowl is also dishwasher safe or can be hand washed.  Just keep in mind that the heating elements are in the lid, so do not submerge the lid in water.  Instead just wipe the top down using a damp cloth or sponge.
