There are not many of us that are confident enough to use huge bold patterns in our window curtains, but if you can pull it off, you can really make a statement with your window treatments. The bold look for curtains works well in contemporary rooms where most of the other items are reasonably plain, but you will need to be ready for most of the focus of the room to be around your windows. If you would prefer visitors to admire other areas of your room, then you really need to choose a more subtle curtain fabric.

Good fabric and curtain making are costly so it is important that you love the fabric you choose for your curtains and that you will continue to love it until it is time to decorate again. You may need to live with it for years so don’t jump in with both feet before considering how much you like it. Are you happy to live the pattern and colors? Will you get tired of it quickly? And are you happy for other items in the room to reflect the colors in the curtains? That’s because, it is no good having curtains which look like an afterthought especially if you have chosen a striking pattern. All the colors in the room need to be tied together.

If you are a little scared to go bold with a pattern, but you would like to be a bit more daring, there are a couple of things you could do. You could choose something in a bolder color like hot pink curtains or bright turquoise to create an impact. At least in that case you can balance the room by adding other accessories in the same color to your bed or sofa.

Alternatively, you could compromise by using a classic, more subtle pattern such as paisley or gingham but then choosing it in a bright color such as purple or lime green for a contemporary fresh look.
